Amid a reigning apocalyptic plague, The Witnesses finds five individuals united through a weekly support group to explore the power of found community through care and companionship.

Johnson is actually the first commissioned playwright under CTC artistic director Jade King Carroll, who will direct the piece. While Johnson had no idea what she would write about, she admits she often finds herself writing about what she misses. “I’m originally from New Orleans. Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, I’ve spent a lot of my life away from the place I grew up and the people who love me there,” she explains. “Much of why and what I write, then, can be tied to that longing. My characters often have lives unlike my own, but their yearnings for family, for understanding, and for belonging are quite strong.”
